Episode Notes

Podcast Host:
Welcome back to Voices of Region Three. Today’s episode is a powerful one. We're talking about healing, leadership, and a historic launch that's changing the way Guyana supports its men and youth. With us is the dynamic President of the Region Three Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Managing Director of West Central Mall, Ms. Bhabita Albert. Welcome, Bhabita.

Bhabita Albert:
Thank you so much for having me. I’m really honored to talk about something so close to my heart and so critical to our future.

Podcast Host:
The BRAVE Centre. It's bold, it’s needed—and it’s already making headlines. Tell us, what inspired this partnership between R3CCI and the Ministry of Human Services?

Bhabita Albert:
Well, the truth is, we’ve seen the pressure men face—fathers, brothers, sons—trying to live up to expectations while hiding their struggles. We partnered with the Ministry because we believe businesses can’t just focus on profit. We have to care about the people behind the economy. That includes men’s mental health and youth development.

Podcast Host:
That’s a profound shift from the traditional role of a Chamber of Commerce. Why now?

Bhabita Albert:
Why not now? The Ministry’s BRAVE policy gave us the perfect platform. When they approached us about bringing it to Region Three, we didn’t hesitate. We knew we had space at the Mall—and we gave it, rent-free, for one year. It was time to act.

Podcast Host:
Rent-free. That’s a big deal. What message does that send to other business owners?

Bhabita Albert:
It says this: leadership doesn’t only happen in boardrooms. It happens when we invest in people. I encourage other business owners to see social impact as part of their business legacy.

Podcast Host:
Let’s break down what happens inside the BRAVE Centre. This isn’t just a counseling room, right?

Bhabita Albert:
No, it’s so much more. For men, it’s a safe space for healing, reflection, and accountability. For youth, it's homework support, mentoring, and guidance. We’re creating a future where boys grow into men who are emotionally strong and socially responsible.

Podcast Host:
And I hear there’s a powerful meaning behind the name “BRAVE”?

Bhabita Albert:
Yes! It stands for Build your legacy, Reclaim manhood, Activate goals, Visualise success, and Execute fearlessly. It’s not about perfection—it’s about purpose.

Podcast Host:
That’s incredibly powerful. What’s the reaction been like so far?

Bhabita Albert:
Honestly, overwhelming—in a good way. Men are walking in, not because someone forced them, but because they want to change. That’s the win. And our Chamber members are proud to be part of this shift.

Podcast Host:
Last question. What’s next for R3CCI in this space?

Bhabita Albert:
We’ll continue advocating for more private sector support. We’re exploring youth leadership programs through our Junior Chamber. And we’ll keep partnering with the Ministry and civil society. Our work has just begun.

Podcast Host:
Ms. Albert, thank you. Region Three is clearly in bold hands. To our listeners: if you want to support the BRAVE Centre or get involved, visit r3cci.org or email r3cci.gy@gmail.com. Let’s be the generation that gets it right.

Bhabita Albert:
Thank you again. Let’s keep moving Region Three forward—bravely.
