Episode Notes

You know that feeling when everyone talks about a problem, but no one shares what actually works? That's exactly what we kept seeing in the world of vaccine policy. People kept bringing up funding gaps and coverage challenges—but not the solutions. Not the wins.

So, an organization did something about it.

The Global Health Advocacy Incubator created a brand-new podcast called "One Shot, Long Life!"—a bilingual series that gives you real, on-the-ground strategies from the people actually driving change.

We're talking policy wins. Behind-the-scenes stories. What worked, what didn't—and what advocates, health leaders, and policymakers are doing right now to keep immunization programs moving forward.

Why now? Because the stakes are rising.

Countries across Africa and Asia are stepping into a major shift: by 2030, they're expected to fund almost four billion dollars of their own vaccination programs. In 2024 alone, these countries contributed a record-breaking two-hundred and fifty-five million dollars—that's a 19 percent jump from the year before.

That kind of progress is huge. But the reality? We're still not where we need to be.

Right now, over fourteen million children still aren't getting a single vaccine. Most of them live in just ten countries. And outbreaks of preventable diseases have jumped by 43 percent since 2021. That's why strong policy advocacy isn't optional—it's essential.

This podcast series puts you in the room with the people doing the work. You'll hear how advocates in Nigeria are working to close a $200 million annual funding gap, and how parliamentarians across regions are being mobilized to secure long-term domestic resources. And it's delivered in both English and French, so advocates across diverse regions can access these strategies directly.

For more than a decade, the Global Health Advocacy Incubator has been helping countries build sustainable health systems—from immunization to maternal and reproductive health, to primary care. With support from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, they've backed policy wins that have impacted over four billion people across 32 countries.

So if you want real advocacy strategies, this is where to start. You can find the full series on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and iHeart Radio—or tune in by clicking on the link in the description.
