Episode Notes

LOS ANGELES, CA — Glendale resident Jack Thorson Moll, CDAC-II, has been promoted to Executive Director of No Matter What Recovery (NMWR), a dual-diagnosis substance use and mental health treatment program based in Los Angeles that primarily serves the LGBTQ+ community. In his new role, Moll will oversee all clinical and operational aspects of the organization.

Moll has been with No Matter What Recovery since 2022, beginning as a Case Manager, then Program Manager, and then Program Director before advancing to Assistant Executive Director under the leadership of Mell McCracken CADC-II, ASAT. His promotion was announced by Anthony Arranaga-Grayson and Paulo Arranaga-Grayson, co-founders of the program.

Before joining NMWR, Moll—who is fluent in Spanish—served as a counselor at Beit T’Shuvah, an addiction treatment program in Los Angeles. Earlier in his career, he worked as a case manager at Breathe Life Healing Centers, also based in Los Angeles. He holds a bachelor’s degree, is certified by Marste Training Services, and brings more than five years of experience in dual-diagnosis treatment. Moll is a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor (CADC) and has completed extensive education through the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP).

“I am humbled that Anthony and Paulo have placed such confidence in me by appointing me to this position,” said Moll. “It is especially meaningful to lead an organization so well regarded for its comprehensive, holistic, and effective approach to addiction and mental health treatment. I look forward to continuing to address the unique challenges facing members of the LGBTQ+ community and helping No Matter What Recovery reach new heights.”

No Matter What Recovery serves a predominantly LGBTQ+ client population from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and educational backgrounds. Many clients share common experiences of discrimination, homophobia or transphobia, social isolation, rejection, and living inauthentically—factors that often negatively impact mental health and increase the risk of substance misuse.

Research shows LGBTQ+ adults are more than twice as likely as their heterosexual peers to use illicit drugs and nearly twice as likely to experience a substance use disorder. Behaviors such as chemsex—drug use associated with sexual activity and party culture—as well as increased reliance on stimulants like crystal meth, occur at higher rates within the LGBTQ+ community. No Matter What Recovery is uniquely equipped to address these specific challenges.

NMWR offers a comprehensive array of evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). The organization is also a national leader in chemsex education and treatment, providing specialized group programming focused on trauma, relapse prevention, communication skills, and goal-setting.

Currently, No Matter What Recovery operates inpatient and outpatient treatment centers, along with five sober living homes in Los Angeles, serving up to 40 clients at a time. In the coming year, the organization plans to expand its detox and residential capacity with six additional beds and extend outpatient services to Chicago, IL, and Austin, TX.
