Episode Notes

For kitchen and bath remodelers, Google Ads can feel like a game where the price of being seen keeps changing.

Every time a potential customer searches, Google runs an auction to determine which eligible ads appear and where they rank. The outcome depends on more than the amount you bid, including ad quality, search context, competition, and other factors that can change from one search to the next.

That makes paid search particularly challenging in high-value remodeling markets. A competitor can change its bids, another advertiser can enter the market, or search conditions can shift, affecting your position and cost.

There is another limitation that is easy to overlook. Your Google Ads account can tell you how your campaigns are performing, but it does not give you a complete view of what every competitor is doing. You may see your own keywords, ads, costs, and impressions, but you do not automatically see every competitor bidding on those terms, how often they appear, what messages they are testing, or when their coverage changes.

And while increasing your bid can improve your chances of winning an auction, it does not remove the competition. Google also considers ad quality, landing-page experience, the searcher's location and device, the nature of the search, and other auction-time factors.

Higher spending can therefore produce more clicks without necessarily producing a better return. For a remodeling company, the more useful question may be whether there are ways to reach the same high-intent searchers without continually increasing exposure to the auction.

One place to start is with organic search visibility. Invest in pages that can rank naturally for high-intent remodeling searches, giving potential customers a way to find you without triggering a paid ad auction.

You can also target local search opportunities. Strengthen your local presence so homeowners searching for kitchen and bath remodeling services in specific cities or service areas can discover your business organically.

Another option is to answer high-intent remodeling questions. Create useful content around project costs, timelines, materials, design choices, and other questions homeowners ask before contacting a remodeler.

It also helps to build authority beyond your website. Earn mentions, reviews, directory listings, and coverage from relevant third-party sources that can increase your visibility across organic search.

And finally, turn completed projects into search pages. Create dedicated pages for major remodeling projects. These pages can capture specific searches while giving prospective clients proof of your work.

For remodelers already competing seriously for expensive search terms, a fixed-cost approach can also make sense when they want additional traffic without taking on another round of bidding.

Under this model, the business agrees in advance on the search terms, locations, and price per click. Traffic comes from organic search rather than paid ad placements, and the cost does not rise simply because another advertiser increases its bid.

That does not make PPC obsolete, as paid search can still be valuable when the economics work. The advantage is having another source of search traffic when the auction becomes too expensive or unpredictable.

Kitchen and bath remodelers do not have to abandon Google Ads to reduce their dependence on it. The smarter move may be to stop treating the PPC auction as the only way to capture high-intent search traffic.

Google's auction will continue to reward a combination of bids, relevance, quality, and context. But businesses have more control when they can reach customers through traffic sources that operate outside the bidding system.
