Did you know that since the start of the Israel and Palestine conflict, around 100,000 people have fled to Egypt. Can you imagine what sort of trauma those people have lived through?
When you look at the devastation that has taken place in Gaza and Sudan, it’s hard not to feel powerless, but we’re taking a look at just how important even small contributions to relief efforts can be.
These refugees are incredibly vulnerable as they arrive in an unfamiliar place. Without appropriate support, it becomes impossible for families to navigate the complex asylum application process while trying to deal with the trauma of their experiences in their homelands.
We spoke to UK charity Goodwill Caravan about their efforts to help those in need as they arrive in places like Egypt.
They said, “The charity is supporting these people as they attempt to rebuild their lives in a new country. Our dedicated team in Egypt is on the ground and ready to help. Our mission is to help Sudanese and Palestinian Refugees in Egypt integrate into society so that they may have hope of building a better life for themselves.”
Assistance is vital for refugee families who need help with everything from school enrollments for their children and opening bank accounts to sourcing employment opportunities. To assist with finding jobs, people also need access to language classes and vocational training. None of this comes for free.
Goodwill Caravan highlights the importance of supporting vulnerable populations by giving them the skills they need to integrate fully into their new societies. This also helps alleviate the burden placed on overstretched public services.
There is also an urgent need for medical assistance, food supplies, shelter, and legal support, making donations essential to keep asylum seekers safe and healthy in their new homes.
As if the experiences in their home countries weren’t awful enough, these vulnerable groups are also at risk of trafficking rings.
“Refugee families, orphans, detained and unaccompanied children are at the highest risk of trafficking and kidnappings, including for the organ trade,” Goodwill Caravan adds.
What Can I Do To Help? You’d be amazed at how so little can go such a long way. For example, a one-off donation of £50 provides emergency legal aid for a family of four. A £150 donation secures psychosocial sessions for a child while a £1200 contribution covers rent and food costs for a family for one year. What can you spare?
The people of Gaza and Sudan need you. Consider making a donation today and make a real difference to the lives of our brothers and sisters as they arrive to a new life in Egypt.
